This project enabled research, using the criteria specified below, leading to the identification of the barriers and issues with regard to the way that employers view international students.
There should be a wide representation of employers – including large multi-national companies as well as SMEs and public sector.
Regional Development Agencies should be involved in discussions as we would like an understanding of what’s happening at national, regional and local levels.
Recommendations on how the issues can be addressed and the profile of international students’ raised with employers. Although international employers are not specifically within the scope of this project, recommendations on how this aspect could be addressed would be welcome.
Materials were developed and activities undertaken in line with the recommendations from the earlier stages. This included the production of the Global Horizons report which is available below.
Global Horizons: recruiting international students and graduates from UK universities
An executive summary of the Global Horizons report - Global Horizons: how international graduates can help businesses
Another outcome from the research is A guide for employers recruiting international students and graduates which has been published. This guide highlights the benefits of, and information on how to employ, international students and graduates who have studied at UK institutions. It can be downloaded here A guide for employers recruiting international students and graduates and also from the British Council website's PMI2 Employability pages.
