► TAKE A LOOK INSIDE

Employer engagement

This project, which was managed by the Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE), enabled research, using the criteria specified below, which lead to the identification of the barriers and issues with regard to the way that employers view international students.

The criteria for the project were as follows:

  • that there should be a wide representation of employers – including large multi-national companies as well as SMEs and public sector;

  • that Regional Development Agencies should be involved in discussions as we would like an understanding of what’s happening at national, regional and local levels;

  • that recommendations on how the issues can be addressed and the profile of international students’ should be raised with employers. Although international employers are not specifically within the scope of this project, recommendations on how this aspect could be addressed were also welcome.

Materials were developed and activities undertaken in line with the recommendations from the earlier stages. This included the production of the Global Horizons report which is available below.

The final project report by CIHE is available now.

Another outcome from the research is the publication of the leaflet "A guide for employers recruiting international students and graduates". This guide highlights the benefits of and  gives information on how to employ international students and graduates who have studied at UK institutions. It can be downloaded from the British Council website's PMI2 Employability pages and also here.
