Building on this group’s latest project, a China - East Midlands - Business and Employment Possibilities event, held in June 2009, whose purpose was to highlight the commercial possibilities for small businesses recruiting Chinese students and graduates.

The 2009 event attracted 250 students and graduates from the eight East Midlands universities involved and 36 Employers from across the East Midlands Region, with a particular focus on SMEs.The group now plans to replicate this success with another event focussing on the Indian market. There are high numbers of Indian students within the region and also a large Indian business community.

The objectives of the 2010 event were to:

• present the benefits of recruiting Indian students and dispel some of the myths;
• provide an opportunity for East Midlands companies to hear the commercial success stories from organisations who’ve successfully hired Indian students;
• demonstrate how Indian graduates, who have been successfully hired by UK/EU organisations, have contributed to a UK business;
• provide a forum for students and employers to interact and for students to get a realistic view of what is required by SMEs;
• illustrate how careers services can act as a conduit to talent and other university services.
